All Hallows, and October, ends, now November begin

31 October, 2022

Happy Halloween all!Happy All Hallows Day and Eve all!  Enjoy the costumes, food and whatever else you and yours like to do on this most geek-friendly of holidays!

November begins with All Saints Day and, in the traditional Irish calendar, it is the start of Winter.   Tomorrow is also the beginning of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) which I will be participating in, as usual, to spur me to write even though, as has often been the case, I have no idea what I will be working on.

In light of that situation, and seeing no obvious theme to November I will just write about whatever inspires me.   I will keep up with the Tuesday magic items and whatever else I can fit.  However, if you have any requests, anything you would like to see or any theme you would like me to expand upon, please let me know and I will try to fit it in.

New Monster – Grinning Ghost (for D&D 5E)

26 October, 2022

Grinning Ghost

What a winning smileThe old mill was said to be haunted but those who ventured there only reported odd things happening, if they talked about it at all, but no one ever seemed harmed directly by the spirits.  Perhaps by their reaction to them if they ran away in a panic and crashed into, or through, something.  They seemed more to enjoy scaring people and watching the comedy that was created by terrified people at least, that was my analysis of the situation.

Tuesday Magic Item – Rapnos Bell

25 October, 2022

You rang?Gollaon wrapped the silver chain around their offhand.  “Ready?”

Voddick checked the wards on his shield.  “As I am likely to be.  Hunting the unliving is not my favorite thing.”

“But it has to be done, they are like a plague, consuming and destroying, nothing good comes from it.”

“Aye, I agree,” nodded Voddick.  “Still a nasty job.”

“Wich is why it is paying so well.”

Rapnos Bell

These bells are handheld though a little large for easy carrying but not impossible.  They always seem ancient, even newly made ones acquire the appearance of decades of existence within days of being made.  They are often decorated with symbols of protection and a restful death.

Dark Future Ahead 31 – News from the ‘Net of a Cyberpunk bent

21 October, 2022

Supersonic BoomAs usual, I have been following interesting dark future, technology and culture related stories that might be interesting to remix and use in Cyberpunk and near future (or even proper science fiction) roleplaying games.

Is this the future of fast food?  The new Taco Bell in Minnesota.  It is fascinating. Read the rest of this entry ?

Tuesday Magic Item – Bone Shield

18 October, 2022

Made of theseVoddick turned away soon followed by Gollaon.  “I know dead is dead, but still it seems . . . disrespectful,” said Voddick once they were well away.

“For some people survival and winning are the most important things,” replied Gollaon.

Voddick shooks his head sadly.  “Some prices may be too much.”

Bone Shield

These shields look, are, made of woven bones and sinew any attempts to disguise that fact is doomed to failure, paint flakes away, covering and torn and tattered within hours, even magic fails to fully disguise the true nature of the shield.

Tuesday Magic Item – Spiritdrinker

11 October, 2022

Choose your weaponGollaon slowly sipped at a glass of wine as they watched the swordsman practice.

Voddick joined his friend and took a drink of ale.  “That is a uniquely decorated sword he has,” he said.  “But did it not have a different pattern when we were here last month?”

“I was just pondering the same thing,” Gollaon took another sip.

Spiritdrinker

It is thought (perhaps hoped) that there is only one of these blades, its maker is thought to have been the God of Smiths at the request of Lady-Lord of Mischief.  The weapon is quite plain at first, though it is perfectly balanced and whoever picks it up finds it fits their hand perfectly.  As it is used, it shapes itself to its wielder and, perhaps, the reverse is true as well.

Tuesday Magic Item – Shadowstealer

4 October, 2022

Dark cloak for a dark soulGollaon moved quickly aside, almost skipping away as the black-dressed mage swept by.

Voddick watched them go.  “What was that is aid of?” he asked once the wizard was out of earshot.

“Did you see?  No shadow,” said Gollaon.

“That is not good.”

“Not good at all.”

Shadowstealer

These cloaks, if there are indeed more than one, are of a dark cloth that often seems black but occasionally other dark colors can be seen within.  It never seems to wear or stain, always dark, always complete.

October Shadowrun Campaign News and a new Seattle Scream Prop (#79)

1 October, 2022

Only lightly violentJust finished up with the traditional first Saturday game at Tyche’s Games (please come and play if you are in the Athens, Georgia, area) which was successful.  September was fairly light on Shadowrun sadly, just the one Tyche’s Games run and finished up one SoCal game online.  But been thinking about Shadowrun quite a bit and opened a file just for adventure ideas (which served me in good stead earlier today).

Hot off the bit presses, the latest Seattle Scream (#79) again nothing tied directly to recent adventures as the runner managed to get out fairly clean.  Today’s adventure actually spiraled out of the combat soccer news from Issue 78, where they had to track down a Russian combat soccer player who had gone walkabout.

Still waiting for the official release of the new Shadowrun books so that I can get them reviewed which I am quite looking forward to.
