From August to September

31 August, 2020

Lucky (or magical?) number VIINow we move into September (and hopefully some cooler weather here in Georgia, USA), the seventh month of the Roman calendar.  September does not seem to have any particular ties to myth or tradition among the Romans, however, as Seven is usually viewed as a magical number, magic and spells will be the theme for this month.   Please let me know if there is anything you would like to see.

Due to the situation, we will not be going on our usual trip up to visit my mother and Washington, DC, this year.  Much sadness.  But I will try and use the extra time to get some ideas finished for the journal.

August, 2020, saw the following posts here:

Tuesday Magic Item – Wallbreaker Maul

25 August, 2020

Knock knockVoddick refilled his mug of ale and sat back down beside Gollaon.  Voddick leaned over and asked, “Is he done boasting yet?”

Gollaon shook his head slightly.  “But it is only getting better.  He really has a high opinion of himself.”

“I had noticed,” grinned Voddick.

“He has moved on to what he is going to do tomorrow.”

“Is he going to win the battle single-handedly for us?”

“According to him, yes.”

Wallbreaker Maul

These long clubs are heavily constructed of stout wood with a heavy core and bound with copper, often decorated with storm and lightning iconography.  When swung, they occasionally crackle with electricity.

Shadowrun: Krime Katalog (for SR5 and 6WE)

20 August, 2020

Shadowrun: Krime Katalog is an Equipment Book for Shadowrun, for both the 5th and 6th World editions, detailing the new offering from Krime! Mostly weapons and weaponry support but now with vehicles too! Krime always verges on the too silly for my tastes but the book has a lot of interesting equipment and ideas in it, so it is still quite useful even if you strip away the trapping of the Krime and players always like new weapons and vehicles to play with.

Shadowrun: Krime Katalog, is an Equipment Book for Shadowrun, Fifth and Sixth World Editions, having mechanics and statistics for both. Providing weapons and beyond from the company Krime that specializes in weapons and equipment for larger metahumans.

It begins with an introduction to the Krime Corporation which may or may not been started by former Shadowrunners and their meteoric rise to success as providers of weaponry scaled to orks and trolls, with the implication of some shady business deals and a lot of luck propelled them to their initial success.

Then, the new weapons, Read the rest of this entry ?

Tuesday Magic Item – Women’s Banner of Progress

18 August, 2020

Forward!“It is nice to see such passion,” Gollaon said, keeping pace with the parade, the brightly colored banner leading the way.

“Though it seems odd that they must fight for such,” said Voddick.  “In my homeland, everyone is encouraged to seek the path they are best suited for.  All have a voice appropriate to their success.”

“As it should be but not all are so enlightened or practical,” Gollaon said with a grin.  “Let us work out how we can lend our support.”

“But we should be looking for a paying job?”

“This is the right thing to do.”

“Well, you are not wrong about that.”

Women’s Banner of Progress

These banners are always bright and colorful and thus highly visible, occasionally even crossing to the impracticably large, designed to inspire.

Opening page of Part Two:  The cockpit of a B-52 somewhere above Alaska.  “We are go.  I hope this is just a drill.”

Next page: The team as steel plates slam down and seal off the building.  “You have forced me to accelerate my plans,” echos the voice of Computo through the room.

“What are you doing?”

“It is time for the age of the computer to begin, within fifteen minutes, a global nuclear war will begin and the age of humanity will end,” announces Computo.

Tuesday Magic Item – Cat’s Eye Bracelet and Collars

11 August, 2020

Is it your favorite too?Gollaon idly stroked the cat.  “The Baroness and Baron seem very well informed.”

“Well placed spies, I shouldn’t wonder,” said Voddick shooing the cat away from his ale.

“That seems likely.  They seem the cunning sorts.”

Voddick nodded, picking a bit of cat hair from his drink before taking a drink.  “But more importantly, are their allies or enemies?”

“That is an excellent question, we will have to find out.”

Cat’s Eye Bracelet and Collars

These useful items consist of at least two pieces, a bracelet, often a silver chain with cat charms, and one of more cat collars which, while well made, do not -usually- indicate great value.  There is almost always a subtle connection in the design between bracelet and collars.

New Magic Item – Crystal Shield Staff

7 August, 2020

Crystals have powerCreated by the dwarven wizardress Aramasia Diamond “the Crystal Shield” before she left on her last adventure, it is believed the staff was lost when she did not return.  It is a flawless length of hexagonal crystal, so transparent as to be nearly invisible except as light catches on its edges.  As the magic of the staff is used, the crystal become increasingly cloudy.

Crystal Shield Staff

Staff, very rare (requires attunement by a sorcerer, warlock, or wizard)

This staff can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff that grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it and you can choose to deal force damage rather than bludgeoning damage. While holding it, you gain a +2 bonus to Armor Class and saving throws.

The staff has 20 charges for the following properties. The staff regains 2d8 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff retains its +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls but loses all other properties. On a 20, the staff regains 1d8 + 2 charges. Read the rest of this entry ?

Tuesday Magic Item – Rossum’s Useful Toolkit

4 August, 2020

Everything a working person needsVoddick squinted, trying to get a better look as the tinker worked on repairing the inn’s mantle clock.

“Something the matter, my friend?” asked Gollaon returning with fresh drinks.

“Yes, I cannot say why but I find the tinker’s toolkit . . . troubling.”

“Troubling?”  Gollaon sat down and looked over at it.  “Did it just move?”

“Yes, it shifts to make certain that the tinker never has to stretch too far for a tool.”

“Fascinating.”

Rossum’s Useful Toolkit

These toolkit are always large enough, often battered and stained, but always holding together.  Indeed, they are nearly impossible to destroy and difficult to steal from.
