May is almost over and it was a fairly productive month but not a very focused one.

June will see the one year anniversary of this journal!   So, the theme for June will be the Sea of Stars in general and the Empress in particular.  As usual, if there is something you would like to see, please let me know.

New Magic Item – Ancestors’ Shield

31 May, 2010

It was said to be the same shield that guarded the Barony since it was founded.  First used by Sir Konnolan who became the first baron when he lead his troops into battle and lost during his heroic defense of the Silver Pass when he was in his seventies.  Recovered by the militia leader Ronald Stronghand who broke the Black Fang Raiders before being lost again.  Last seen fifty years ago, used by the Baron youngest son to defend the keep during the eighty day siege.  It is a shield of legend, of history, of our brave ancestors.

Ancestors’ Shield

These shields wear their age, often being of antique designs and bearing the heraldry of long forgotten bloodlines.  On the inside are the marks of those who have carried the shield through the years.  When found, the fittings may be in need of repair but the main body of the shield is always sturdy and ready for use.

L5R JYTB Campaign Report 11 – Bloody Night at Quiet Monkey Village

27 May, 2010

Bloody Night at Quiet Monkey Village

Having agreed to help Kuni Fuyumi with her investigation of a possible ghost haunting, Doji Chikako, Kiau Yo and Soshi Utami travel to Lucky Monkey Village.  Lucky Monkey is a fairly prosperous village about a day’s travel from the main castle of the Monkey Clan.  Everyone is mounted, even the Crab on a borrowed Unicorn horse that is actually large enough for him to ride.  Toku Kobo cannot join as he had fallen sick with a fever (i.e., the player was absent) and the Sparrow was unable to secure permission to go as the only member of his clan here (his player was also absent).

What Character Archetypes do you enjoy Playing?

19 May, 2010

Inspired by pointyman200‘s question of What Character Type is your Specialty?, I dug around in my files and found my list of favorite archetypes that I often play:

The Naive Expert / Talented Innocent

This is one of my favorite character conceptions, someone who is very, very skilled in a specific field but naive about the greater world.  These character are very good at what they do and very confident of their own abilities in their field and totally lost once they step out of that narrowly defined area.  They are usually young and without much in the way of social or combat skills, at least at the start.

Why play this archetype?

New Magic Item – Bed of Dreaming Travel

17 May, 2010

I saw a bed in the huge oak outside Wartington the other day.  No!  Really!  A big noble bed with a canopy and everything!  No, I don’t know how it got there but there were quite a few oddly dressed fellows clustered around the trunk.

Bed of Dreaming Travel

These items are rarely seen, which might surprise those who actually see them as they are quite massive.  The bed of dreaming travel is a huge ornately carved bed with a full canopy, often they are shaped as ships with the canopies styled as sails.  They are made from the highest quality materials and are extremely sturdy.
