The haunting sound of a flute echoed through the forest,  suddenly the walking dead seemed disoriented, their attacks poorly aim.  We were able to pull together and reorganize and then put an end to the latest threat by the Blood Priests of the North.

Once we were done, I followed the sound of the flute and found a young woman in a mourning dress sitting cross-legged on a tomb.  “Well done soldier, Naenia thanks you for seeing the dead restored to their resting places.”

“We do what we can.  We thank the Goddess for her protection.”

Naenia’s Flute

These flutes are carved from pale wood dyed black, delicately carved with the words of the prayer for the dead.  The mouth piece is usually carved ivory but occasionally made of silver.

The flute provides a +3 competence bonus when using Perform check with it, raised to +5 when performing dirges or other sad or reflective music.  As long as the flute is being played, all allies that can hear the music gain a +2 sacred bonus to Armor Class and saves against death magic and the powers of the undead.  In the hands of someone with 5 or more ranks in the appropriate Perform skill, all undead within 30′ of the flute when it is being played, suffer a -1 penalty to attack rolls and skill checks, if the flautist has 11 ranks of perform, the area of effect is increased to 60′ and for her the sacred bonus is increased to +3.

Undead are incapable of touching or harming the flute.
