Hellions and the Hellborn in the Sea of Stars (A to Z)

9 April, 2021

First, the demon must be capturedWhile visitors from the lower realms are rare, they are far from unknown in the Sea of Stars, and once here, they try to stay as the process of summoning them is risky (and the return journey is unpleasant).  Some manage to inveigle their way into staying even if such come with various sorts of bindings, there is always a way to escape given time and they have all the time in the world.

The very presence of these diabolic beings causes a low level of corruption in the living creatures nearby which over generations can lead to the creation of creatures -and even plants- with fiendish natures and, with enough time, Hellions may be born.  Those likely to give birth to Hellions are generally live in cultures inured to such diabolic expressions, but as the spiritual corruption may lay dormant for generations before it expresses itself in flesh, sometimes Hellions are born to those who have no expectation of such a child, this often ends poorly for all involved.  Though there are some . . . specialists who seek out Hellion children to be raised where their unique talents can be put to use.

The Hellborn are Hellions created by more direct means, some of the beings from the dark realms are, well, capable of sexual relations with people.  Some of these relations lead to children who show their heritage quite clearly.  Some of the more dedicated, or carnal, demon cults actively seek out and encourage such matings.  The Dark Star Dominion, always seeking any advantage, had a program for breeding Hellions that were in turn indoctrinated with loyalty to Ba’ai’i and the Dominion, in that order.

Naturally, the children of the Hellborn are more likely to be Hellions themselves and those that can free themselves from the circumstances of their birth generally try to find some place where they can live in peace.  Luckily there are no lack of hidden corners, and unusual people, in the Sea of Stars to hide in or blend in among.

Other Hellions embrace their heritage and seek out cults and magics that will allow them to enhance their power: personal, magical, social, or all of them.  These sort of Hellion often use their heritage as an excuse for all sort of terrible deeds, blaming their “tainted blood” for their actions rather than their own desire for power.

But like all people, Hellions can be of any sort, even if they feel the draw of darkness more then most, they are not fated to succumb to such a path.

Notes: Hellion is the in world term for Tiefling (a name I dislike) in the Sea of Stars, my reasoning behind the change can be found here.
