Tuesday Magic Item – Traveler’s Cloak

5 January, 2010

A simple item for the traveler (or adventurer):

Traveler’s Cloak

This item is favored by the professional travelers and soldiers.  It keeps its wearer dry in the rain, warm in the cold and cool in the heat.

The Traveler’s Cloak will keep dry under most weather conditions, even a driving rain will only dampen it.  The cloak will mildly adjust the wearer’s temperature towards their optimum and it provides a minimum of protection if the wearer has no other protective clothing (+1 armor bonus).  Lastly, the Cloak is very hard wearing, virtually immune to normal wear and tear (it saves at +4 against any form of damage).

Aura faint abjuration; CL 3rd
Slot shoulders; Price 1,000; Weight 1 lb
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, Endure Element, Mage Armor, Mending; Cost 500 (+40 xp for D&D)

  1. Does the cloak provide the benefits of endure elements? It sort of sounds like it might, but it doesn’t say explicitly.

    • No, it just makes you more comfortable, keeping you warm in the cold and cool in the heat. But I could not find a way to represent that mechanically.

  2. Would it work to provide a bonus to Endurance checks to resist environmental effects?

    • I had considered something similar but I could not find any guideline for what sort of bonus would be appropriate.
