Tuesday Magic Item – Warrior Band

26 March, 2024

Gollaon and Voddick watched the soldiers drill, moving in close unison, their years of working together obvious.

“I am pleased they are our allies,” said Voddick.

“Truth,” agreed Gollaon.  “They will fight and die, if necessary, together.”

“You noticed that too?”

Warrior Band

Made as set of armbands, between three and six, some are single-use items, usually made of cloth, others are permanent and usually made of metal or other hard-wearing materials.  They are decorated with symbolism important to the group they are made for and all share

The wearers must have trained together for at least a month before being able to use their magic.  The armbands are activated by a shared ritual by all of the wearers that takes an action to complete.  Once activated, for the next half hour:

The members share one group pool of hit points, comprised of the total of their hit points when the ritual was enacted.  Each member gains DR 3/- and Resistance to all forms of energy 3, as the shock and trauma is dispersed across multiple people.  Any healing to any member is added to the group pool, any damage any of them takes, is subtracted from it.  When the pool drops to zero or below, all of the members are dropped to zero hit points and the link is ended.

Confusion or Fear only affects a member if all of the members fail their save against the effect.  The shared life force makes them resistant to Death effects, gaining a +4 divine bonus against such, and if the save is failed, the effect is negated by the link is destroyed.

When the group pool drops to half its initial total, all members gain a +1 morale bonus to attack rolls and melee damage, this persists even if the group pool is later brought back above half the initial.  When it drops down to less than one-tenth of the initial pool, but still above zero, they add 5d8 + the combined levels of the group members to the group pool, this only triggers once.

The link is also broken if any member of it moves more than 100′ away from the other members.

The single-use version can only be used once, unsurprisingly.  The permanent version can be used once a day.

First two paragraphs as above.

The members share one group pool of hit points, comprised of the total of their hit points when the ritual was enacted.  As the shock and trauma is dispersed across multiple people, they take two points less damage from each attack against them regardless of the damage type.  Any healing to any member is added to the group pool, any damage any of them takes, is subtracted from it.  When the pool drops to zero or below, all of the members are dropped to one hit point each and the link is ended.

Confusion or Fear only affects a member if all of the members fail their save against the effect.  The shared life force makes them resistant to Death effects, gaining advantage against such, and if the saving throw is failed, the effect is negated by the link is destroyed.

When the group pool drops to half its initial total, all members gain a +1 bonus on to hit rolls and to melee weapon damage, this persists even if the group pool is later brought back above half the initial.

Once the permanent version has been used it cannot be used again until all members of the group have had a long rest.

Notes: The ultimate in teamwork. possibly abusable so be careful with it.
