PinkCat: Running in the Shade “Party Crashers” (A different sort of SR campaign report)

20 July, 2016

To understand what is going on here, you had best read the first PinkCat: Running in the Shade post, but short summary, this is a campaign report for our Shadowrun campaign set in NorCal through the filter of a cartoon made by one of the team members.

Episode Twenty Two: Party Crashers

Guest Starring: DD, Double Up and introducing:

  • Tora.  An androgynous young tiger with martial arts and stealth skills.  (A stand in for Toru, a Yakuza raised young woman on the run.  Played by L2.)

Dance!New student Tora is depressed because they are always excluded from events, Glitter and Pink decided to help her make new friends.  BB takes Tora salsa dancing, Double Up introduces Tora to the gun club, Glitter take them to the racing club, Pink shows off the comics club, they wrangle invites to a populars party.  But, in the end, Tora finds that they are happy just hanging out with Pink and the rest of the team, being part of a large group just is not their thing.

What really happened:

The team is hired to retrieve a valuable porcelain statue that is on display in the lobby of a mining corporation officer and not given a lot of time to do it.  We research and scout, plunder FriendFace and other social networks to get images of where it is and what kind of security it has.  Getting in proves difficult but just at the end of our window, the corporation is holding a fund raiser for one of the candidate to be the next California Tax Commissioner.  Pink uses her backdoors into the public school system to wrangle BB and Tora invites as teacher and student reporting for the school system’s media channel and Double Tap and Sparky pose as historical reenactors hired in for the night of classical music (Double Tap was Beethoven and Sparky a Napoleonic soldier) via a light hack of the corporation’s system.

Like this but with more orksOnce in, the two parts of the team get to mingle with the other guest or the hired help, getting a feel for the setup and scouting out the location of the target item first hand.  Luckily, it is in a little cul-de-sac off the main room that functions as a museum/look at all the places we work display.  Once the party breaks up, Double Tap and Sparky changed out of their costumes and BB and Toru went on a final sweep/ distraction duty.  Double Tap and Sparky slip into the cul-de-sac, placing a cleaning in progress sign across the entrance and proceed to crack the case security while BB and Toru distract the guards on duty.  The target item, and a few others, are replaced with 3D printed duplicates and that team scarpers, soon followed by the rest.  Thankfully, everything goes smoothly and everyone gets out without further trouble.

PinkCat is back in the lair while the rest of the team makes the deliver to Mr Johnson, in a restaurant, where is is waiting very nervously and does not have all of our money.  He promises it will be there soon, so the team waits and shortly a woman with two bodyguards arrives, politely threatens Mr Johnson, pays the team off, with a bonus for “forgetting this ever happened”, and the team leaves our (former) employer to sort out the situation without our help.

Notes: A fun mission where we just avoiding all sorts of trouble.
