Dark Future Ahead 37 – News from the ‘Net of a Cyberpunk bent

16 June, 2024

Supervillain;s lair?Tomorrow’s News Today!  As usual, I have been roaming the ‘net looking for inspiration for cyberpunk games and discussion.  Found a variety of interesting bits and pieces that should be useful.

Though several of the stories point toward a more helpful future.  Maybe there is some light in the darkness.

Nature in all its glory:

Using mushrooms to clean up pollution and other toxins, which is clever as fungi thrive on all sorts of materials, and then you can compress them into bricks for building (as you obviously would not want to eat them).

How Florida is dealing with the invasive Burmese pythons.  It seems like there should be some adventure ideas there (or at least unexpected problems to encounter on a journey).

Building the future:

Turning recycled plastic into lego-like bricks for the building of the future!

Then you can top your new building with vertical wind turbines to generate electricity.  So many interesting designs for new, small(ish) wind turbines are being developed.

A fun design for a delivery drone, but will it take off?  Who knows, but Mobinn is giving it a shot.  I am sure people can think of interesting ways to abuse the design.

Need a place for the ultrarich to hang out?  How about these two repurposed coastal forts?  Good for parties, secret meetings and more!

Somehow, it just seems to tie into the dark future, though it is a positive story in many ways.  Tons of dumped orange peel jumpstarts ecological restoration.

More not dark but interesting ‘rewilding’ initiatives that could have unexpected effects: the reintroduction of wild horses to Kazakhstan and the introduction of European bison to Portugal.

Photo from the firm auctioning the two forts, Savillis, and found on the TimeOut website, owned by them and used without permission.

Go back into another Dark Future.
