Tuesday Magic Item – Fool’s Flower

Voddick shook his head as the well-dressed dandy strode by, their clothes a riot of colors and patterns.

“A bit garish, but such is the fashion here, for the nonce,” said Gollaon.

“And among all that, a cut flower!  Was there not already enough color without killing a flower?”

“Oh, that was a cunningly made künstlich flower,” said Gollaon.  “I recognized the style.”

“Oddly, that makes me feel better about it.”

Fool’s Flower

Made to resemble real flowers through careful artifice and connected by a metal pipe to a reservoir of liquid.  Yes, it is a magical version of the classic squirting flower.

The flower can be activated by a command word or a gesture (a free action), sending a jet of water up to fifteen feet.  The person struck by it must make a Will save (DC 13) or be dazzled for 1d3 rounds, if failed by 5 or more, they are also dazed for one round and if failed by 10 or more they are confused rather than dazed.

The flower has enough water for three squirts then it needs eight hours to refill.  It can have dye or scent added to the water (costing at least 5 gold) which, besides the obvious, also increases the DC by 1.  Anything toxic or caustic added is, however, filtered out, the flower is for fun and games, not to permanently maim or harm someone.
