Tuesday Magic Item – Lubricating Liquor

14 March, 2023

Have a drink, let's talkGollaon looked at the bottle suspiciously.  “I am not sure if we should be drinking this?”

Voddick took the bottle and poured a glass.  “It seems a bit effervescent but I cannot see anything that looks dangerous about it.”

“I think it will make you more talkative than you would like.”

“No one likes me being talkative,” said Voddick with a wry smile.

Lubricating Liquor

This liquor is an effervescent clear liquid that enhances the flavor of any drink it is added to.  It only needs a small amount, an ounce or two (30-60 ml), to work.

The lubricating liquor makes the drinker willing to talk, relaxed, and peaceful.  The drinker gains a +3 alchemical bonus to Diplomacy checks, saves against effects that manipulate emotion (including fear) and they must make a Will save (DC 14) to initiate violence, though they can certainly defend themselves.

These effects last for 1d4+2 hours.

One bottle contains enough for twelve uses.

Aura faint enchantment; CL 5th
Slot none; Price 600 (for a bottle); Weight 2 lb
Construction Requirements
Craft Wondrous Items, eagle’s splendor, owl’s wisdom; Cost 300

For D&D 5E:

Wondrous item (bottle of liquor), uncommon

First paragraph as above.

The lubricating liquor makes the drinker willing to talk, relaxed, and peaceful.  The drinker gains advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) tests and to saving throws against effects that manipulate emotion (including fear) and they must make a Charisma saving throw (DC 12) to initiate violence, though they can certainly defend themselves.

These effects last for 1d4+2 hours.

One bottle contains enough for twelve uses.

Notes: Good for encouraging talk rather than conflict, hopefully.
