Tuesday Magic Item – Kind Death Talisman

28 February, 2023

Death be kindGollaon watched the young soldiers take the talismans from their elders, carefully keeping any emotion from their face.

Voddick watched as well, his face equally blank.  “Let us hope they do not have to use those.”

“We will do our best to keep them safe.”

Kind Death Talisman

These items are usually worked in the form of memento more, remembrances of death, skulls, coffins and such like.  Some are just simple carved wood or stone, and others are made of precious metals and gems.

The wearer gains a +4 resistance bonus to saves against death-effects and negative energies.

Anyone treating the wearer when they are at negative hit points gains a +4 competence bonus to that aid.  Additionally, the wearer gains a +2 bonus to their Constitution check to become stable when at negative hit points.

Lastly, if the wearer is killed, their body is protected by a gentle repose effect.

Aura faint abjuration; CL 5th
Slot Usually neck; Price 5,000; Weight — lb
Construction Requirements
Craft Wondrous Items, aid, bear’s endurance, gentle repose; Cost 2,500

For D&D 5E:

Wondrous item (talisman), uncommon

First paragraph as above.

The wearer gains advantage on saving throws against death-effects and necrotic energies.

Anyone making Wisdom (Medicine) test to stabilize a dying wearer gains advantage on the test.  Additionally, the wearer gains advantage on their first death saving throw.

Lastly, if the wearer is killed, their body is protected by a gentle repose spell

Notes: Keeping people alive or at least delivering an uncorrupted body back for burial, the first is more important but sometimes all you can manage is the second.
