Tuesday Magic Item – Solstice Ring
21 June, 2022Gollaon gently played the viola as the happy couple took their vows under the Summer sun. It was a beautiful day and the couples’ whole extended family had arrived.
Voddick oversaw the drinks that had been brought passing them out and, occasionally, keeping more from those who had gone too far down the path of inebriation.
As the event wound down, the two friends met up. “A task well done,” said Gollaon.
“Indeed, may they be happy and safe together,” nodded Voddick.
Solstice Ring
These rings are always made of gold or a gold alloy, as gold is the metal of the sun, and are usually undecorated on the outside though they sometimes bear an inscription on the interior. These rings draw upon the light of the longest day to bless and protect those pledged to each other with the rings. The ring’s basic power is to glow with a soft light, equal to three candles, and anyone can use this, it is a simple power that can be turned on or off as a free action.
However, when given to someone in a formal ceremony, it forms a bond between the two. As long as the person who gave the ring is nearby, within sight or touch, the wearer gains a +4 morale bonus to saves against fear and can choose to flee to their partner if they are affected by any form of fear.
The wearer has a sense of their partner’s health and, if healing them, gains a +5 competence bonus to Heal checks performed on them and, thrice a day, they can add their Charisma modifier (minimum +1) to the amount of any magical healing (even used though an item) performed on their partner.
Lastly, once a year, renewing on the Summer Solstice, the wearer of the ring may Teleport to their partner.

First paragraph as above.
However, when given to someone in a formal ceremony, it forms a bond between the two and attunes the ring to the wearer, however, it does not count against the number of items attuned (though a wearer can only have one such ring). As long as the person who gave the ring is nearby, within sight or touch, the wearer gains advantage to saving throws against fear and can choose to flee to their partner if they are affected by any form of fear.
The wearer has a sense of their partner’s health and, if healing them, gains advantage on Wisdom (Medicine) checks performed on them and, a number of times equal to their Proficiency bonus until they take a long rest, they can add their Charisma modifier (minimum +1) to the amount of any magical healing (even used though an item) performed on their partner.
Lastly, once a year, renewing on the Summer Solstice, the wearer of the ring may Teleport to their partner.
Notes: Always fun to do a Soltice-themed item, but this one is, in a way, a gift to my wife. We were married, with gold rings on the Summer Solstice some years ago. May we be blessed and protected.
