Tuesday Magic Item – Librarian’s Ring
14 June, 2022Voddick looked up at the seemingly unending shelves of books. “So much knowledge,” he whispered.
Gollaon nodded in agreement. “This library has been gathering the written word for centuries. I suspect they have books they do not even remember.”
Voddick gave a low whistle. “If only we had more time.”
“Truth, now let us find that librarian.”
Librarian’s Ring
These items are usually in the form of a signet ring bearing the seal of the library they were made for. They are usually undecorated apart from the seal, though sometimes a motto or such is inscribed on the interior of the ring. The wearer of the ring can create and command an unseen servant at will, but outside of a building, the servant cannot range more than ten feet from the wearer.
The wearer can use mending at will on any book, scroll, tablet, or similar item used to store written information. This mending also cleans and restores the item towards its ideal useful state (old pages and scrolls become less brittle for example).
Lastly, the wearer gains Resistance to normal (not magical) Fire 10 and any book, scroll, tablet or similar item used to store written information within ten feet of the wearer also gains the same protection.

Construction Requirements

First three paragraphs as above.
Lastly, the wearer gains Immunity to normal (not magical) Fire and any book, scroll, tablet or similar item used to store written information within ten feet of the wearer also gains the same protection.
Notes: I admit, I find the idea of a line of librarians wearing these rings walking in a line through a burning library to extinguish the worst of the flames visually and thematically appealing. Fire is, of course, one of the greatest dangers to books (along with water and vermin). Obviously, it would be very useful for a wizard as well.

I see an implication that the range limit on unseen servant inside the building is NOT ten feet?
Correct, inside a building it is the usual range. (40 ft for Pathfinder with a 7th level caster.)
