Tuesday Magic Item – Leech Shell Spiral
12 April, 2022Voddick dodged back around the corner as a whirling disc spun by. “Keep back!” Voddick shouted to Gollaon.
“What is it?”
“Leech discs! They killed the groom,” answered Voddick.
“Horrible weapons, let us see about bringing some justice to anyone who would use such,” said Gollaon wrapping his cloak around his arm.
Leech Shell Spiral
These items are usually made from the shells of pouncing leech snails, carefully cut to reveal their inner spiral and treated, occasionally weighted. They are vicious and unpleasant weapons.
These weapons can be treated as a shuriken with a +2 attack bonus but it only causes one point of damage on a successful hit. Once it hit, it bites into the flesh of a living being, feeding on the victim’s blood, causing 1d3 points of bleed damage each round, on a maximum roll, it burrows deeper and the next roll for bleeding damage is one size larger (1d4, then 1d6, and so on). The bleeding can be stopped by a DC 15 Heal check, though each time the dice size increased this DC increases by 2, or through the application of any spell that cures hit point damage.
Each spiral is good for one successful attack and it loses its power when removed.

First paragraph as above.
These weapons can be treated as a dart with a +2 bonus to hit but it only causes one point of damage on a successful hit. Once it hit, it bites into the flesh of a living being, feeding on the victim’s blood, causing 1d3 points of necrotic damage each round, on a maximum roll, it burrows deeper and the next roll for damage is one die size larger (1d4, then 1d6, and so on). After taking the damage the victim can then make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, ending the effect on a success. Alternatively, the wounded creature, or a creature within 5 feet of it, can use an action to make a DC 15 Wisdom (Medicine) check, ending the effect on a success. Though each time the dice size increased these DC increases by 1.
Each spiral is good for one successful attack and it loses its power when removed.
Notes: Inspired by the pouncing leech snails subspecies of the jumping snail whose shells can be used to make these.

Jumping snails – I love it! Grasshoppers can’t jump immediately twice in a row, although their time to “recharge” is only a minute or two. But maybe jumping snails have a similar mechanism.
