Tuesday Magic Item – Dizzying Darts

28 December, 2021

Dart“Darts?” Voddick said looking at his shield.

“Do not let them hit you!” said Gollaon taking cover behind a barrel.  “They are dizzying darts!”

Voddick crouched behind his shield.  “Curses!  I hate those.  So, they are definitely kidnapper then.

“Agreed, we has best find an alternate route and save our charge.”

Dizzying Dart

These darts are enchanted to make prey unstable and easy to catch, originally made for an order of paladins who sought to capture wanted criminals so they could face justice.  These darts are unusal weapon, actually design to inflict minimal physical damage, but to make to person hit vulnerable to capture.  Unfortunately, the magics to make such were stolen and they have been used by kidnappers and slavers.

These darts are highly accurate, following an unpredictable path to the target.  Once it hits, it lodges and causes its victim to become dizzy and disoriented.

It is a dart with a +3 attack bonus but it only causes one point of damage on a successful hit.

If the dart hits by 3 or more over the target’s armor class, the dart is embedded in the target.  A person with an embedded dart suffers the sickened condition and their movement is halved for as long as the dart is embedded.  Someone with three embedded darts are affected the staggered condition and a with a total of five darts embedded, the victim is incapacitated.  Removing the dart by the target requires a action and a successful Fortitude or Will save (whichever is lower) against a DC of 15 or by another person with an action and successful Heal check DC 15.

Each dart is good for one successful attack that ends with the dart embedded and it loses its power when removed.

First paragraph as above.

It is a dart with a +2 attack bonus but it only causes one point of damage on a successful hit.

If the dart hits by 2 or more over the target’s armor class, the dart is embedded in the target.  A person with an embedded dart suffers a level of exhaustion for each dart embedded to a maximum of five levels of exhaustion.  Removing the dart by the target requires an action and a successful Constitution or Wisdom saving throw (whichever is lower) against a DC of 13 or by another person with an action and successful Wisdom (Medicine) check DC 13.

Each dart is good for one successful attack that ends with the dart embedded and it loses its power when removed.

Notes: Inspiration comes from odd places and today I suffered a brief attack of vertigo and it occurred to me that being able to make other people suffer from such a condition would be very effective, thus this item.
