Tuesday Magic Item – Monkey Sash

14 December, 2021

Gollaon flipped a knife underhanded which sunk into the thief’s buttocks.  The thief gave a cry of pain and almost fell when he tried to grab the knife.  “There are solutions,” said Gollaon.

Voddick grinned and grabbed discarded chunk of wood.  “Come down or we will knock you down.  We will be more mercifal than the fall.”

“We will take that knife out and patch you up too.”

The thief paused, looked at how much further they had to good and started, slowly and painfully climbing down.

Monkey Sash

These sashes are usually decorated in what could be called a garish style with multiple colors, metalic threads, bangles and beads.  To say that they are distinctive is an understatement.

These items are best for those with a flamboyant nature for they must be displayed for their magic to be active.  When displayed, the wearer gains a +4 morale bonus to saves against fear and a +4 competence bonus to their Initiative rolls.

It also grants the following abilities:

The wearer gains a +5 Competence bonus to Athletics and Tumbling checks and the wearer’s leaping distance in increased by half.  And when they have moved more than half their movement, or made a leap, they gain a +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class.

The wearer gains a climbing speed equal to their walking speed, less 5′, and (if conscious) only takes half damage from falls.

Lastly, a strand of the sash acts as a prehensile tail.  It does not have enough strength to support the wearer (or wield a weapon) but still can be quite useful.

However, the wearer becomes enamoured with their own cleverness and has trouble making plans, preferring to leapinto action and trust to daring and luck to get out again,

First paragraph as above.

These items are best for those with a flamboyant nature for they must be displayed for their magic to be active.  When displayed, the wearer gains a dvantage on saving throws against fear and on Initiative rolls.

It also grants the following abilities:

Lastly, a strand of the sash acts as a prehensile tail.  It does not have enough strength to support the wearer (or wield a weapon) but still can be quite useful.

However, the wearer becomes enamoured with their own cleverness and has trouble making plans, preferring to leapinto action and trust to daring and luck to get out again,

Notes: Today is World Monkey Day so a monkey themed item seemed appropriate and fun.  Do not give this item out to a player who is not willing to buy into its limitation though, that just will not be fun for anyone.
