Tuesday Magic Item – Knight Killing Longbow

26 October, 2021

LongBow2Gollaon inspected the arrows, “Excellent craftsmanship don’t you think.”.

“Agreed.  This bodkin point is superb,”  said Voddick.

“They should punch through most armor,” agreed Gollaon.  “I could have used those a few month back.”

“Truth.”

Knight Killing Longbow

These long bows are simple yet stong, light on decoration but perfectly made for their task.  These are magic weapon made by the people, created by craftsmanship and belief, their existance is a careful secret for while often used in the service of the nobility no noble wshes such weapons toexist.

It is a +1 knight-bane* longbow in the hands of a commoner, for a member of the aristocracy, it is but a masterwork longbow.

Additional, when used by a commoner, it provides its wielder with a +2 deflection bonus against missiles propeled by mechanical devices, such as crossbows, and spells.

Craft Arms and Armor, cat’s grace, shield. true strike; Cost 5,500 +375 for the bow

For D&D 5E:

Weapon (long bow), rare (requires attunement)

First paragraph as above.

It is a finely made longbow, in the hands of a commoner, you have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, this bonus increases to +2 and it does an addtional 1d8  percing damage when the target in a knight.*

Additional, when used by a commoner, it provides its wielder with a +1 bonus against missiles propeled by mechanical devices, such as crossbows, and spells.

Notes: Yesterday was the anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt so longbows were on my mind.

* “Knight” for the perpose of this weapon is any member of the aristocratic warrior caste and their direct military servants, so knights, squires and men-at-arms in Europe, Samurai in Japan, the Spartans in Ancient Greece would all count.  Obvious, none of those sort of people would want a weapon like this to exist, killing is their job not to be done by common people to them . . .
