Brave Folk (Badgerkin) for Dungeons & Dragons (5E)

Badger the bard notIn the Crimson-Lined Valley, the Clans are guarded by the warriors of Drake’s Hold, the bravest of them are from the Badgerkin line. The origins of the Brave Folk are traced back to the Sundering when the Baron of Jackery drew upon all of their resources to defend the Crimson-Lined Valley from invasion. Among the defenders were the trained badgers of the young Baron. What happened has never made clear, but the Brave Folk returned from the battle having driven off the invaders, their leader was the young Baron henceforth known as Rolland the Brave.

Since then the Brave Folk have guarded the Crimson-Lined Valley from harm.

Physical Description: The Badgerkin are humanoid badgers, stocky and powerfully built, their bodies ripple with muscles under their wiry fur. Their fur is grey above and black on the under parts with a distinctive black and white striped face and white-tipped ears.

Their eyes are usually black, brown or amber, with the occasional green, blue eyes are not unknown but are exceptionally rare.

Relations: The Badgerkin have no serious enemies, they keep to themselves and expect others to do the same. They manage a small amount of trade but not so much that they are often noticed. While the occasion raider of the Crimson-Lined Valley is soon shown the error of their ways.

Alignment and Religion: The Badgerkin are very clan-oriented, working hard to support one another. Most have an overriding sense of duty and loyalty, usually to their home valley. The Badgerkin are very pragmatic but they do revere their ancestors, sometimes going so far as to cross into actual ancestor worship.

The Badgerkin are brave, loyal and stubborn. True friends and implacable enemies, the Brave Folk are well titled.

Lands of the Badgerkin: The Badgerkin are at home in the mountains and hills that ring their valley home and the nearby forests. The vast majority of the Brave Folk never leave the Crimson-Lined Valley.

Adventurers: Badgerkin mercenaries are rare but not unknown, they are in high demand as bodyguards. Even more rare are Badgerkin merchants-venturers or storytellers, but occasionally they are seen.

Names: Each of the Brave Folk has a personal name, usually a nickname or title and is a member of one of the three clans. The three clans are Axe, Oath and Tower.

Your Badgerkin character has certain traits deriving from your ancestry.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1, and your Constitution score increases by 2.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet. However, Badgerkin can move at this speed even when wearing armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load (unlike other creatures, whose speed is reduced in such situations).

Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Age. The Brave Folk mature more rapidly,beingfully adult around forteen years of aga but rarely live linger than eighty years.

Alignment. The Badgerfolk are loyal to their family and friends, usually placing their clan and family before their own needs. As a rule, they are trustworthy and stoic.

Size. The Bravefolk are human shaped and sized, though tending toward a stout and short build. Your size is Medium.

Languages. Badgerkin speak the language of the Valley, most also learn the Imperial Tongue as well. The Badgerkin language has no written version, they rely on memorization through story and song. Mercantile records are kept by the scribes of Drake’s Hold in the Imperial Tongue.

Animal Ancestry. Due to their unusual heritage, all Badgerkin are affected by spells that target animals. However, they do receive advantage when resisting such spells.

Healthy. The Badgerkin are exceptional hardy and little slows them down, you gain advantage on saving throws against disease and poison.

Intimidating. Badgerkin are quite frightening when they choose to be and gain proficiency with Intimidation.

Stubborn and Sturdy. A Badgerkin gains advantage to resist fear effect and any ability that would move when they are firmly on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground).

Tough fur. The dense fur and thick muscles of the Badgerkin turns blows that would cripple a normal human, when you are not wearing armor, your AC equals 12 + your Dexterity modifier.

Notes: So, for a short adventure over the holidays, one of my players wanted to convert his Badgerkin character over from Pathfinder (you can find their Pathfinder version here) and I have been converting the Beastkind over to D&D 5E any way, so,  welcome the Brave Folk!
