Tuesday Magic Item – Sudden Snowflakes

“I had not expected that,” said Voddick wiping his brow before taking a swig of water.

“Truth,” said Gollaon, “this sort of desert has probably not seen snow in . . . centuries or more.”

“It is a good trick, we should see if we can get some of those snowflakes for later use.”

“Excellent thought.”

Sudden Snowflake

These devices are in the form of a snowflake, usually made of crystal or silver or a mix of the two.  Most commonly they are about two inches (5 cm) across but they can be larger or smaller.  Sometimes they are work on necklaces or as earrings.  They are used by throwing them, sometimes with a command word, and they trigger on impact.

The snowflake can be thrown up to one hundred and twenty feet and upon striking a hard surface, it shatters and replicates into a small snow flurry.  Treat this as a fog cloud that lasts for a minute, the duration is twice as long in sub-freezing weather and half as long in very hot conditions.  Anyone in the area when it initially manifests takes 1d4 cold damage, Reflex save (DC 14) for half, people in cold wearer gear (or with think fur or such) gain a +2 equipment bonus to this save, while those in light or no clothing suffer a -2 circumstance penalty to this save.

Notes: A nice wintry item and it has been a while since I did an expendable item.  We have not had any snow so far in our area, what about you?
