PinkCat: Running in the Shade “Haul Sixteen Tons” (A different sort of SR campaign report)

8 November, 2020

To understand what is going on here, you had best read the first PinkCat: Running in the Shade post, but short summary, this is a campaign report for our Shadowrun campaign set in NorCal through the filter of a cartoon made by one of the team members.

Episode Forty Six: Haul Sixteen Tons

Guest Starring: Clawz, DoubleUp, Gimmick, and Tora.

Among the treesPink and the crew are hired to help landscape one of their classmate’s places.  Only to find out that they are expected to plant trees, oh so many trees.  And that there is a group of angry golfers who do not want them planted.  A classic escalating cartoon conflict ensures, starting from comedic sabotage and ranging to all out war.  Finally ending with trees everywhere and both sides having a party together.

What really happened:

“I am the Tir, I speak for the trees.”  OK, not really but we were hired by a Tir Agent, who we know as Leaf, to recover a shipment of stolen giant sequoia saplings of all crazy things.

We know who is taking delivery of the trees, Omega Transport Co, but we get a bonus for finding the source of the stolen trees as well.  So, we begin by scouting, as usual, infiltrating the warehouses and learning their security.

Before it was repaintedIt is good but Pink thinks she sees a vulnerability.  We have a cargo container . . . so repaint it in Omega Transport colors and deliver it to the warehouse we are sure will be the delivery point.  Then we show up as New Green Days Hydroponics operatives and custom fit the container for taking the cylinders the redwood saplings are transported in.

The saplings are delivered and we have hired bikers try to track the delivery back.  While another friend of ours arrived with a truck and haul the container full of saplings away.  A few blocks out we pass by a similar truck, driven by another fiend of ours, flip the ID transponders and each head on our merry way.  Nearly perfect . . . except that Omega soon realizes their shipment is gone and set out in pursuit.  Luckily they are chasing the wrong vehicle.

But we discover that they had lined the cargo container with explosives.  Once they realize they are tracking the wrong vehicle, they try to blow up the right one.  Pink jams the signal but we have to scramble to unload, discovering that each tree also has an incubator containing an infant dryad attached!  Once they are all safe, we drive the contain off and let it be detonated.

We are paid and later hear reports that the tree smugglers are arrested in the Tir.  So, good all around.

Notes: The most recent game but one.  We also had a Halloween themed game where we had to rescue Linus from being sacrificed to the Great Pumpkin by a small group of fanatics but that has too many copyright issues for Pink to deal with.
