Tuesday Magic Item – Rossum’s Useful Toolkit
4 August, 2020Voddick squinted, trying to get a better look as the tinker worked on repairing the inn’s mantle clock.
“Something the matter, my friend?” asked Gollaon returning with fresh drinks.
“Yes, I cannot say why but I find the tinker’s toolkit . . . troubling.”
“Troubling?” Gollaon sat down and looked over at it. “Did it just move?”
“Yes, it shifts to make certain that the tinker never has to stretch too far for a tool.”
“Fascinating.”
Rossum’s Useful Toolkit
These toolkit are always large enough, often battered and stained, but always holding together. Indeed, they are nearly impossible to destroy and difficult to steal from.
The toolkit will always have the right tools, if they could conceivably fit inside the kit, and the kit will shift itself to always be where it is needed for its owner to get what they need. This provide the kit’s owner with a +5 competence bonus on all appropriate skills such as Craft and Disable Devices and they can accomplish any task using Craft in 4/5th of the usual time.
Anyone trying to steal tools from the box or its owner finds that they slip from their grasp, roll away or otherwise are difficult to take, cause a -5 penalty to any checks involved in such attempts.

First paragraph as above.
The toolkit will always have the right tools, if they could conceivably fit inside the kit, and the kit will shift itself to always be where it is needed for its owner to get what they need. This provide the kit’s owner with advantage on all appropriate tool proficiencies and they can accomplish any task while using these tools in 4/5th of the usual time.
Anyone trying to steal tools from the box or its owner finds that they slip from their grasp, roll away or otherwise are difficult to take, cause them to suffer from disadvantage on all rolls involved in such attempts.
Notes: Annabelle Rossum is my inventor/builder wizard in our Heroes of Blackmoor game, currently on hiatus, she loves building things . . . like her clockwork dog familiar Marius and Ironhoof the clockwork Clydesdale. She always aims to leave a place better than when she found it. Rossum is from Rossum’s Universal Robots by Karel Čapek, the source of the word robot.
