Tuesday Magic Item – Honorary Colonel’s Uniform

“I am not sure if I approve of military command being given just because of royal ties,” said Voddick quietly.

“The Lieutenant-Colonel handles most of actual command,” replied Gollaon.  “They are more here for inspiration and as a sign of royal favor to both the noble and the soldiers.”

“Well, I can see a willingness to risk the dangers of battle being somewhat inspirational,” agreed Voddick.  “As long as they do not take too many risks.”

“The Lieutenant-Colonel will make sure of that, believe me.”

Honorary Colonel’s Uniform

These uniforms are always of the highest quality, with the finest fit and exquisite tailoring  They are modeled on the uniform of the unit that the honor colonel is technically in command of, but better and more stylish in almost every possible way.

These uniforms are strategically reinforced with silk, leather and other materials, allowing them to act as +2 leather armor.  They also reinforce the wearer’s confidence, giving them a +4 morale bonus to saves against fear, raised to +6 as long as at least three members of the honorary colonel’s unit are within sight.

Any member’s of the colonel’s unit within 30′ who are directly fighting to defend the honorary colonel, gain a +1 morale bonus to attack and melee damage rolls and a +2 morale bonus to resist fear.

In any battle, defined as a combat with a hundred or more combatants on each, the wearer of the uniform gains temporary hit points equal to: [20 – wearer’s level] x 3 for the duration of the battle (yes, the higher level the wearer, the fewer temporary hit points they receive).  This ability only triggers once a day.

In any battle, defined as a combat with a hundred or more combatants on each, the wearer of the uniform gains temporary hit points equal to: [20 – wearer’s level] x 3 for the duration of the battle (yes, the higher level the wearer, the fewer temporary hit points they receive).  Once this ability has been used, it cannot be used again until after the wearer has had a long rest.

Notes: Some of these may incorporate better armor, chain mail or a breast plate for example, depending on the type of soldiers commanded (which would increase the cost slightly).

I thought it would be fun to have an item that became less powerful as its owner gained levels.
