Tuesday Magic Item – Dagger of Cupidity
25 February, 2020Voddick fell back to join Gollaon. “I do not trust our new associate, he seem far too interested in coin and not enough on the job at hand.”
“I had noticed that as well,” said Gollaon.
“Yesterday, Koz said that she saw him rifling a passed out drunk for loose coins.”
“Yes, he takes every chance to enrich himself. We will have to watch out so that does not cause us trouble or drag us into danger.”
Voddick nodded.
Dagger of Cupidity
The hilts of these daggers are well decorated but close examination will usually reveal the decoration is gilding and semiprecious stones or cut glass. The blades are entirely practical and usually blued so as not to catch the light.
It is a +1 keen dagger and the bearer gains a +4 competence bonus on Perception checks to find hidden treasure and to Slight of Hand checks to steal or hide valuable items.
As long as the bearer does not use their newly improved skills to steal, the dagger’s curse remains dormant. However, once they do give in to temptation, the bearer is compelled to acquire further money and valuables; if the bearer fails to do so when an opportunity presents itself, they are nervous and unhappy, suffering a -4 on all Charisma based checks until they gain some money. They are also susceptible to appeals or confidence games that offer money, suffering a -4 penalty to any checks or saves to resist such.

As long as the bearer does not use their newly improved skills to steal, the dagger’s curse remains dormant. However, once they do give in to temptation, the bearer is compelled to acquire further money and valuables; if the bearer fails to do so when an opportunity presents itself, they are nervous and unhappy, suffering disadvantage on all Charisma rolls until they gain some money. They are also susceptible to appeals or confidence games that offer money, suffering disadvantage to any rolls or saving throws to resist such.
Notes: Unless you want inter party conflict, probably best to convince player characters not to succumb to the curse. And last cursed item of February.
