Tuesday Magic Item – Day’s Smile Amulet

14 May, 2019

Brightening your life“It is nice to be among good people again,” said Voddick, taking a drink of ale.

“Truth.  But there will inevitably be bad people coming along who wish to take what they have,” said Gollaon looking out over the fields.

“And that is why they have hired us.  We my be good at what we do, but we are not good people.”

Gollaon smiled.  “So very true.”

Day’s Smile Amulet

These amulets are always brightly, one might say cheerfully, colored often incorporating a smiling woman’s face or a sun disc or both.

The wearer gains unique insight into defusing hostile situations and calming people and animals, gaining a +4 competence bonus on Animal Handing and Diplomacy checks in such situations.  While attempting to broker peace or calm a situation (or animal) the wearer is protected as if by a Sanctuary spell (DC 14).

The wearer also gains a +4 competence bonus on any Perform check that aims to brighten a situation, promote peace or encourage cooperation and friendship.

However, the amulet will fall from the wearer and be lost to them forever if they ever deliberately act with cruelty towards person or animal.

The wearer gains unique insight into defusing hostile situations and calming people and animals, gaining their proficiency bonus on Charisma (Animal Handing or Persuasion) rolls in such situations, or twice that bonus if already proficient in that skill.  While attempting to broker peace or calm a situation (or animal) the wearer is protected as if by a Sanctuary spell (DC 13).

The wearer also gains advantage on any Charisma (Perform) check that aims to brighten a situation, promote peace or encourage cooperation and friendship.

However, the amulet will fall from the wearer and be lost to them forever if they ever deliberately act with cruelty towards person or animal.

Notes: Inspired by Doris Day, who passed away yesterday, and her love of animals.
