PinkCat: Running in the Shade “Secret Santa” (A different sort of SR campaign report)

25 December, 2018

To understand what is going on here, you had best read the first PinkCat: Running in the Shade post, but short summary, this is a campaign report for our Shadowrun campaign set in NorCal through the filter of a cartoon made by one of the team members.

Episode Forty: Secret Santa

Secret Santa gifts!Guest Starring: DoubleUp, Rani and Tora. Introducing:

  • Doc Cav, a new (mad) science teacher at the school, a cyborged lizard in the Inspector Gadget mold.  (Standing in for Cavalier, a transhumanist street samurai. played by B.)

The school has decided that hosting a “Secret Santa” would be good for student bonding.  Of course, everyone wants silly things, so the cast ends up hunting all over town for the strange and unusual gifts and humorous adventure ensures.

The episode ends with everyone around a false tree in the school cafeteria, with other holiday symbols around too multi-cultural the school is, exchanging gifts and food and singing songs.  A happy holidays to all.

What really happened:

We have a meet at the Chrome Collective, a newly opened retro-futuristic dance club, where were are hired by Silver Fox to deliver three gifts on Christmas Eve:

  • A daisho to a corporate office.
  • A motocycle to a McMansion in gated community.
  • A cyberdeck to an apartment deep in gang territory.

We spend the first few days scouting and doing research, visiting the neighborhoods and making plans.  The daisho looks like the hard one and we only have an eight hour window to deliver the items . . .

For the motorcycle, we spoofed the proprietary transceiver used by all vehicles in the subdivision and just drove it in.  Tora opened the garage while Remy used silence to keep the area, well, quiet.  Double-Tap picked them up outside the gated community, playing it as two teenagers out partying having to be picked up by a parent.  It went smoothly.

There was more preparation for the play in gang territory, Double Tap with help, prepared a fireworks display, as a distraction.  While Cavalier kept watch physically, PinkCat did net overwatch and Tora and Remi went in.  Using magic fingers, a video screen on a loop and basic breaking and entering, we left the deck just inside the apartment door, seen only by a cat.

The daisho . . . we ended up finessing that.  We had to get into into the office of the CFO of Monosario Music Technology.  To make matters more complex, the entire office is closed on Christmas Eve.  We bounced around various ideas but ultimately, decided to cheat, we lured him home early on the 23rd with a delivery for his wife.  Having already sent notifications purporting to be from CalRev that end of the year paperwork for the CFO only was to be delivered by end of the year.  PinkCat showed up as that official courier on the 23rd at 5:45pm, with all of the official paperwork for the drop off.  Escorted by MMT security, she took the tube containing the daisho and deposited it on the CFO’s desk, signed and counter signed the paperwork and left.  At midnight as Christmas Eve moved to Christmas Day, the tube unfolded into a stand holding the daisho, ready for its recipient when he came in on the next business day.

Our finessing of the one delivery was accepted, we were paid and it was a happy holidays for all.

Notes: B is a new addition to our group and he was not entirely happy with have Cavalier played, so he might be slightly tweaked before the next game.  Still a very fun, holiday themed game.  Merry Christmas to all in and out of the Sixth World.
