Tuesday Magic Item – Cobra-Cat Chain

3 April, 2018

Cat Chain“I would not get too close,” cautioned Golloan as Voddick stepped closer to the long bodied cat.

“I will not, I do not have much like with such beasts,” Voddick replied, keeping his distance.

“Good as I suspect this cat is more than it appears.”

Cobra-Cat Chain

These items are made in pairs, a chain collar for the pet and a bracelet or necklace for the owner.  Almost always made of precious metals, silver being the most common, and occasional having suspended baubles.

Both the master and the pet, any cat or cobra-cat of size small or smaller, must wear their chains.  Once bound, pet and master can communicate as though using a speak with animals spell.  As long as both are within 30′ of each other, both gain a +1 shield bonus to armor class and, once a day when the other is threatened, each can gain a +2 bonus to attack anyone threatening the other and 2d4 temporary hit points for two minutes.

If both of the wearers are bound as master and familiar, both gain access to a shared pool of temporary hit points equal to 5 plus the character’s level which replenished at midnight, which can be used whenever either takes damage.  The temporary hit points gained from either being threatened is added to this pool.

Aura moderate abjuration; CL 7th
Slot neck (collar); neck (necklace) or wrist (bracelet); Price 7,500; Weight

First paragraph as above.

Both the master and the pet, any cat or cobra-cat of size small or smaller, must wear their chains.  Once bound, pet and master can communicate as though using a speak with animals spell.  As long as both are within 30′ of each other, both gain a +1 bonus to armor class and, once a day when the other is threatened, each can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the attack roll to attack anyone threatening the other and 2d4 temporary hit points for two minutes.

If both of the wearers are bound as master and familiar, both gain access to a shared pool of temporary hit points equal to 5 plus the character’s level which replenished at midnight, which can be used whenever either takes damage.  The temporary hit points gained from either being threatened is added to this pool.

Notes: You can find the Cobra-cat here which this is particularly designed to work with but it is a useful for anyone with a cat companion or familiar.
