“You sound almost wistful my friend,” replied Voddick.
“Ah, perhaps,” he said drumming his fingers on his sword hilt, “it reminds me rather of where I spent my youth. A dangerous time but exciting ones for a young man.”
Voddick nodded. “There is no passion like the passion of youth.”
These amulets are usually simple in design, but with one small flaw in their design, though made of the most precious of materials.
Until they are keyed to a particular wearer and a particular foe, they simply provide a +1 resistance bonus to Will saves. To be activated, it must be gripped tightly enough to draw blood (causing one point of Constitution damage) while the holder looks at their foe and whispers, “I will be your downfall.”
From that point forward, the wearer must seek to oppose the foe’s every action, gaining a +4 competence bonus to any skill check required to do so, raised to +6 if directly confronting their foe. They gain a +4 resistance bonus to saves against their foe’s actions and abilities and a +4 dodge bonus against their foe’s attacks.
But they must oppose their foe at every turn, every opportunity, even just stepping aside from their foe’s goals causes anguish, and a -4 to all skill checks, until they return to opposition. And if they willingly aid their foe -for whatever reasons- suffer a negative level for each day they continue to do so.
