Tuesday Magic Item – Cameo of Vanity24 February, 2016
“What a charming hostess,” said Voddick, sipping at a cup of strong tea.
Golaon nodded, “And quite beautiful in spite of her age. Her spirit is young and her will like iron.”
“What an odd thing to say.”
“She has at her hands, well at her throat,” he tapped his collarbone when the lady wore an exquisite cameo, “the ability to be much young should she choose, that she does not, is a testimony to her honor and her will.”
Cameo of Vanity
These are exquisitely crafted pieces of jewelry in the cameo style, always depicting a person at the height of their beauty.
For those willing to age gracefully, the worst effects of aging on appearance are warded off, further they gain a +2 resistance bonus to saves against disease and poison and any Charisma damage they suffer is reduced by one.
But it offers so much more for those willing to take it. Once a day, the wearer may inflict a negative level on a victim of the same type as the wearer they are touching (no save, DC 21 to recover the negative level loss) in return, the wearer gains one of the following boons:
- They do not age for one month, this does not make them immortal, they still die when their life span runs out but they can remain in the prime of life. They thus suffer no penalties from aging but receive no benefits either.
- Neutralize any poison or cure any disease the wearer is suffering from.
- Gain a +2 profane bonus to Charisma until the next dawn.
If the victim was willing, the wearer may choose two boons.
Using the Cameo in such a way corrupts the wearer’s aura, after it has been used ten or more times, the wearer’s aura appears as half undead to those who can sense such things and they suffer half damage from attacks that target undead specifically. Animals also become uncomfortable around such an aura, causing a -4 profane penalty on any interaction with them. This aura of corruption can only be cured if the cameo is destroyed.
If the cameo is destroyed, each person whose aura it corrupted suffers one point of Charisma drain for each decade (or part of a decade) of aging they avoided.
Aura moderate abjuration (strong necrourgy when worn by one with a corrupted aura); CL 11th

Notes: Sorry this is late, got distracted last night before I could finish it up. Another semi-cursed item, you have to choose to activate the curse, which is how I like such items to work, take the power, pay the price.
