PinkCat: Running in the Shade “Safety First!” (A different sort of SR campaign report)12 December, 2015
To understand what is going on here, you had best read the first PinkCat: Running in the Shade post, but short summary, this is a campaign report for our Shadowrun campaign set in NorCal through the filter of a cartoon made by one of the team members.
Episode Sixteen: Safety First
Guest Starring: DD.
The team is hired to find out who is spreading rumors about, and possibly sabotaging, the Big Wave roller-coaster at the Pacific Water World theme park. So, they infiltrate the park as employees and investigate. Jots of silly disguises and Scooby Doo-ish investigative shenanigans before discovering it is a corporate ninja/saboteur employed by BigStudio who were trying to drive the price down before a hostile takeover bid. Crazy chase through the park follows to a musical score before the ninja is captured and unmasked. Followed by the team enjoying a party in the theme park.
What really happened:
The team really was hired to test security of an import-export company running goods from the San Fran docks to deeper inland by big truck. It involved lots of research and watching and study, most of which is boring to relate. But, as we got a bonus if we found flaws, we made a plan. First, we tricked a Go Gang into making an attempt to hijack the truck in the city, which failed, but allowed us to snipe the truck and shatter the protective cover over the trailer’s uplink giving us access to hacking it. PinkCat slowly starting feeding data to indicate that the cooling unit was failing as it traveled the highway. We followed the truck, DD jumped onto the back of the actual truck from the van, cracked the maintenance seal and plugged an uplink into the computer system of the truck, which PinkCat promptly hacked. When the truck asked for instructions on what to do about the coolant system, we feed them data telling them to stop and try and fix it. As soon as they pulled off the road, DD activated canisters of stun gas she had attached to their air intakes, she actually had to kick the driver who staggered out of the cab semi-conscious. We stole the important contents from the trailer, hidden among a shipment of fresh fish, and delivered them to our employer along with a list of things to do to tighten up security. Another successful mission!
Notes: A more typical mission for the team with minimal direct (by us) violence involved, though the Go Gang got a bit chewed up in their failed hijacking attempt.
