New Spell – Transfer Quickened Life

8 May, 2013

A focus for the spellIt was a huge step, one that his wife insisted upon.  Haflan did not have much truck with magic.  But the fever had gripped his wife and if they did not act, her life or that of their child might be lost.  The young woman that would bear their child -and how odd it was to think of his and Ashilaz’ child growing in another woman’s womb- was healthy and brave and, they would insure, well compensated.  The ritual was about to begin and the wizard had excluded him from the room, for which he was only thankful.

But still, such magic gave him shivers.  He hoped he was not coming down the the fever as well . . .

Transfer Quickened Life
School conjuration (healing, teleportation); Level cleric/oracle 4, sorcerer/wizard 5

CASTING
Casting Time 1 hour
Components V, S, F/DF (model of womb and child/holy symbol of a mother goddess)

EFFECT
Range touch
Target one pregnant creature and one suitable recipient or receptacle (see below)
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Fortitude negates; Spell Resistance yes

DESCRIPTION
This spell is used to move a fetus from its mother either to another woman, a modified person of another sex or a prepared magical receptacle.  It requires an hour long ritual and is more likely to be successful with willing participants.

If the mother wishes to resist, they gain a bonus to their save equal to their Wisdom or Charisma modifier (whichever is higher), if the mother resists, the spell can go no further and spell ends, further the subject cannot be targeted again by this spell for a week.  If the subject does not resist, they suffer one point of Constitution damage, if they resist and fail the save, they take 1d4 points of Constitution damage.

If the fetus is being transferred to a nonliving receptacle, it happens and the receptacle does what it does (which is hopefully to sustain the fetus).  If it is moving to a living being, they may choose to resist, gaining a +2 if they are not a sex that usually bears young.  If they successfully resist, they suffer 1d4+1 points of Constitution damage and the fetus dies.  If they resist and fail, they suffer 1d4 points of Constitution damage and are pregnant.  If they accept the fetus, they suffer one point of Constitution damage and are pregnant.

Notes: One way to move a fetus to a Person Egg.  Useful but still a little strange, certainly outside of the normal range of spells and it can be used for quite terrible things though it is designed to be used for good ones.

  1. Gross!

    • Not the most helpful of comment. I prefer “potentially disturbing” and it certainly has that potential.

  2. Maybe potential disturbing, but also the sort of magic that people would enevitably get around to creating in a world where magic was used for real stuff instead of only geared toward dungeoneering.

    • And you know how much I like to play around with that sort of magic.
