Unusual Disease – Hellish Feaver (A to Z Challenge H)
9 April, 2013The Priest-Inspector came out of the crossroads tavern, his sword unsheathed and stained with blood. “Burn it! Burn it all. The dread fever that claimed the village of Rem is in there. We cannot let it spread.”
The soldiers started stacking bundles of straw against the side of the build, ducking back as things were case at them from the window. A crossbowman shot down someone trying to escape, but mostly those inside seemed happy to try and drink themselves to death before the flames could consume them.
“I only pray we acted in time,” said the Priest-Inspector as the tavern burned.
Hellish Feaver
Type disease (injury, intimate contact, failed remove disease check); Save Fortitude DC 16
Onset 1d3 days; Frequency 1/day
Effect 1d3 Wis damage, 1 Con Damage; as long as a character’s is Wisdom is less than 8 from damage from Hellish Feaver, they suffer a -2 penalty on any roll to resist acting on their desires or passion.
Those infected by this sinister illness find that the feaver it creates, strips away rational thought and self control as well as slowly consuming the body. It leaves the infected flushed and prone to ill-considered action and rash words. Though some would argue the spiritual damage it can cause is more frightening than the physical. When the victim’s Wisdom reaches zero they fall into a nightmare filled sleep and their Fortitude save to resist the disease suffer a -2 penalty.
A caster who fails their remove disease check to banish this illness is immediately exposed to Hellish Feaver.
Drinking holy water or blessed wine give a +2 sacred bonus to the save against the disease.
Notes: An obviously magical disease designed to spread disruption and confusion.
And with this I have covered at least one of each of the various things suggested to me to cover as part of my A to Z Challenge.
