Pattern Seekers – Episode 13: Dark Castles and Faceless Men

16 March, 2013

Dark CastleWith some time to rest and ponder after retrieving dragon eggshells, our heroes are again called to serve the designs of the Pattern, being awoken in the middle of the night and given a hand drawn map showing the location of a sword inside a castle.  The Shaper informs them that time is of the essence as reinforcement are on their way to the castle and they must retrieve the sword while they can sending them directly on their way with potions and goggles to let them see at night.

Crossing through the gate, they find it is night and giant moths waiting for them.   With some reluctance, they climb on the moths and wing through the night sky.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Short Pathfinder/OGL Reviews – Daredevils and Constructs

12 March, 2013

Two different Pathfinder/OGL resources here, one for primarily for players and one for Game Masters:

Anachronistic Adventurers: The Daredevil is part of Super Genius Games’ Anachronistic Adventurers (3rd in the series) framed around the idea of people from modern(ish) worlds carried away into a fantasy world.  The Daredevil represents the most adventurous of the adventurers, people who rely on raw cussedness and luck to get the job done and survive.  While framed around the modern person in a fantasy world, it works as a pure adventuring class as well.  It is full of good, solid ideas for those who like these sorts of characters.

Tuesday Magic Item – Bellicose Gladius

12 March, 2013

A sword in handCenturion Victoria Julian surveyed the situation, the barbarian hordes were pressing in all along the front and left flanks.  Missile fire and ditches has slowed them down, but still they came, they had bravery if not discipline.  The right could hold its own for the moment.

She drew her gladius, it had been her mother’s before her’s and her grandmother’s before that, always serving in defense of the Republic. “If you ladies are done with your hair,” she shouted, “we have some barbarian children who need to be taught why you fear Legion XVII, the Furies!  Fast march forward!”

As one, the legionaries moved to battle, ever confident in their centurion.

Bellicose Gladius

These soldiers’ swords are always well-used but also well cared for, the metal well oiled and the grips worn but well maintained.  They are hard wearing, functional weapons that have seen both victory and defeat in battle.

Shadowrun 2069 Campaign Report 2 – Things Go Wrong

9 March, 2013

No new Seattle Scream since last time (but you can find a link to issue 38 here) but there will be for the game in April.

Our team is hired to retrieve 20 cases, each weighing 50kg, from a warehouse that was owned (and 60% used by) the SmartShop Corporation with external security provided by Lone Star.  The cases were in the section of the warehouse that SmartShop subleased out to other companies and individuals, who provided their own internal security.

Even though they are under a 48-hour deadline, things started out well: Read the rest of this entry ?

Tuesday Magic Item – Hawk Scout’s Gauntlet and Hood

5 March, 2013
Falcon on the Gauntlet

Ready to Fly

Thave caught her hawk on her gauntlet and spoke a work, its hood reappearing calming the bird.

“What did your friend see, hawk-mistress?” asked Sir Caval, leader of the army of Vos.

“The Silver Lord gathers his forces to cross at Lorvan’s Ford, his outriders are already across.”

“Thank you,” growled Caval.  “Mount up!” he shouted to his knights and men-at-arms.

Hawk Scout’s Gauntlet and Hood

These items are always obviously a matched pair, a heavy leather hawking gauntly decorated with occult symbols that are replicated on the hawk’s hood.

New Magic Item – Scalpel Mine

1 March, 2013
Lots of these:

One of many.

The carnage was terrible, whoever had attacked here had no compunction on limiting damage.  The wall were riddled with metal shards were they were not burned by fire or melted by acid.

“Who would do such a thing?”

“Who could?” came the reply.  “This level of destruction is almost unimaginable.  What caused it and why?”

Scalpel Mine

These first-sized metal spheres are ringed with rows of immensely sharp blade, making handling this item dangerous to those who do not take proper care.  They are dense and the metal they are constructed from is not easily identified.

March onwards, looking back at February

1 March, 2013

March begins and the Equinox and Spring move near.  March gains its name from the Roman month Martius which in turn gains its name from Mars, the Roman god of war (and more a soldier than a warrior than his Greek counterpart Ares).

So, the theme for March will again be the military and things martial.  As usual, if there is anything in particular you would like to see let me know.  I will try to do something, spell or item, for the Equinox as well.

February, 2013, this journal saw the following posts here:
