Standing in the shadows are five warriors, looking closer, your realize that they are crudely fashioned wooden mannequins in ill-fitting leather armor and carrying clubs and shields. You dismiss them as a threat until they move forward in unison.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Instinctive Coordination (Su) If two are more warriors of wood are attacking the same target, they are able to function as a single coordinated unit, gaining a bonus to attack equal to the half (rounded down) of the number of warriors of wood attacking the target and +1d6 sneak attack damage, with the usual limitations on such.
Self-Repair (Su) Left along with raw wood, soil and sunlight for 24-hours, the warrior of wood will repair 1d4 points of damage to itself.
Warrior’s Gift (Su) If a warrior’s hair was used in the making of the warrior of wood, it gains one of the following bonuses depending on the class of the person who donated the hair:
- Barbarian– +1 damage with melee weapons.
- Fighter– Toughness Feat if the warrior of wood is wearing armor or using a shield.
- Paladin– +1 resistance bonus to all Saves.
- Ranger– Gains the Stealth skill at +4.
These simple constructs are often used in warfare to make up numbers and confuse the enemy, unless directly commanded, they are capable of only the simplest tasks.
They appear as a crudely shaped wooden person and, if not given better weapons, they are equipped with a club and a light wooden shield.
Construction
A warrior of wood is made from 50-pounds of wood and, sometimes, hair taken from a warrior.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
Craft Construct, bull’s strength, magic weapon, mending, creator must be at least caster level 5th;
Skill Craft (woodwork) DC 15; Cost 250 gp
Notes: The most basic of construct but dangerous in large numbers and an army of them could be quite terrifying . . . until a wizard started fireballing them.
A temporary version of the warrior of wood is created by the stick soldier item.
I think one of these disguised as a cigar store Indian could be a good surprise.
That would be an excellent idea. Or the carved wooden pillars in a Nordic feast hall?
I am about to use these in the online game, against the other party…I’ll let you know how it goes. Making some modifications for AD&D, of course…
