Wandering the Web [13]
30 October, 2011Well, it has been a while since a did one of these. Following are a collection of articles and places that I found informative and inspiring hidden at various places in the web:
Nidar Singh is thought to be the last living master of shastar vidya, the Sikh science of weapons, and he is looking for someone to pass that mantle onto. More information on shastar vidya here.
Under the Nazi regime, an attempt was made to shape arts into “proper Germanic ideals” these were shown in the Großen Deutschen Kunstausstellungen (Great German Art Exhibits), photograph and catalogs of these have been collected here (site in German). For additional background, an article in English about the GDK and this project.
For a mystery, what happened to the 1845 Franklin Expedition that set out to explore the Northwest Passage?
The ruins of a Roman Gladatorial School are found in Austria. For more Roman history, I recommend The History of Rome podcast.
Classic animation shorts from MTV’s Liquid Television, “putting the fun back into dysfunctional”. I highly recommend Crazy Daisy Ed though there are many weird (mostly weird in fact) and wonderful things there. zub zub zub
Interested in steampunk? Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders probably has something for you. They are also raising money for a better printing press via kickstarter.
Nice collection of links!
Glad to be of help.
