New Monster – Anger Fragment

23 May, 2011

Our young scout came running back chased by these small screaming faces trying to bite her.   Leaving trails of blood in the air the snapped and bit at anyone they could reach.  Our wizard was bitten and began swinging his staff in a mad frenzy.  Soon enough we defeated the annoying creatures.

Infectious Anger (Su) Anyone bitten by an Anger Fragment feels anger pulsing through their veins.  Those bitten must make a Will save (DC 18) or be angry for 1d4 rounds plus one round for every three full points by which they failed the save, while angry they must use melee attacks to attack the nearest enemy (or nearest person if no enemies are left) and suffer a -1 penalty to Armor Class.  A person can only be effected by this anger once per hour, further bite once the rage has worn off cause fatigue with the same save.

The save DC is Charisma based and includes a +6 racial bonus.

Tearing Bite (Ex) On a successful critical hit, the anger fragment’s bite inflicts 1 point of bleed damage.

Weakened by Laughter (Ex) Laughter and joy are one of the antidote to anger or, at least, to anger fragments.  An Anger Fragment suffers a -1 to attack rolls and its infectious anger has a -4 DC in an area of laughter and jocuality.

What you may know about the Anger Fragment:

Knowledge (Arcana or Religion) DC 18.  These creatures are created by necrourgic magic to guard and attack the enemies of the summoner.

Knowledge (Arcana or Religion) DC 25.  These creatures are made of anger and can inspire anger in those savaged by their bite.

Necrourgic Specialists and Clerics of the War domain gain a +2 bonus to these skill checks.

During Combat: They swarm the nearest target rapidly shifting to counter attack those that attacked them.

Morale: As bound undead and filled with anger they will attack until destroyed.

Notes: Second in the Fragment series of spirits, the first being the Fear Fragment.  More are in the works.

  1. I love this–particularly the name. Though it would be cool if they were also called spite-sprites in some less reverent circles. 😉

    • Oh, that is clever, wish I had thought of it.

  2. […] Figured I needed to write up a spell that would create fragments (such as the anger and fear fragments) which I have been playing around […]
