New Magic Item – Bed of Dreaming Travel

I saw a bed in the huge oak outside Wartington the other day.  No!  Really!  A big noble bed with a canopy and everything!  No, I don’t know how it got there but there were quite a few oddly dressed fellows clustered around the trunk.

These items are rarely seen, which might surprise those who actually see them as they are quite massive.  The bed of dreaming travel is a huge ornately carved bed with a full canopy, often they are shaped as ships with the canopies styled as sails.  They are made from the highest quality materials and are extremely sturdy.

The bed sleeps three adults comfortably, six uncomfortably and eight at maximum.  It works only at night.  The bed and its sleepers travel through the dream realm to a destination chosen before they go to sleep.

Once the destination is chosen, if the sun is down and it is before midnight, the sleepers lay down and they are instantly lulled to sleep.  Once asleep, the characters begin to dream a shared dream and they -and entire bed and it contents- are shifted into the dream realm.  The Character with the highest Charisma is the lead dreamer and makes a Charisma check to arrive at their destination.  The if the lead dreamer is a spell caster, they gain a bonus equal to the highest level spell they can cast.  The DC is 13 for a place well known, 19 for a place visited and 28 for a place only read about, described or seen in a picture.

If the roll is missed by up to five points, the bed arrives within 1d10 miles of the destination, if the roll is missed by more than five, the deviation becomes 1D100+10 miles.  If the roll is a natural “1″ and more than ten points less than the DC, the bed and its dreamers become lost in the dream realms.  With the exception of becoming lost in the dream realm, the bed will never materialize where it can be seen by others or in immediate danger, but it will appear in potential danger, such as the top of a mighty oak or in the courtyard of a castle.

The other dreamers must make a Will save against the same DC or suffer from nightmare for the next 1d4+1 nights.  These nightmare should have only minor mechanic effects.
