
Tuesday Magic Item – Safety Belt
26 January, 2010Obviously, travel by sky or star ship is terrifying to some people, to assuage their fears, this magic item was created.
Remember to wear your Safety Belt at all times when walking the deck, you never know when a high wind will come up. Remember to keep your hand on the rails whenever possible and immediately return below decks if you hear the bad weather horn sound. -part of the safety lecture on the sky ship Princess of Dawn.
Safety Belt
These sturdy belts are usually marked with the name of the ship or company that they were commissioned for. Some are fancy and decorated, others are plain and practical, as the person ordering them thought best suited.
The Safety Belt is triggered when the wearer falls more than 15 feet (5 meters), at that point it causes the wearer to float in the air (as though levitating) and a glowing beacon (usually red) appears 30 feet (9.5 meters) above him, both effects last for an hour. At the end of that time, the wearer is allowed to gentle wave down under the effects of a feather fall spell.
Each Safety Belt is good for only one use.

Safety Belt, Deluxe
These are usually significantly fancier than their lesser cousins, usually being costume made for their owner.
They function identically to a Safety Belt but in addition, at any point once they have been activated, the wearer may fly (as the spell) for up to five minutes divided as the wearer chooses. When using the fly effect, the floating time is not used up, giving the wearer an additional margin of safety.
The Deluxe Safety Belt is good for only one use.
