Rumina’s Cup – New Magic Item / A to Z Blogging Challenge [R]

April 21, 2011

Young mothers and their children came to the temple, taking milk from the goats to make the libations.  The goddess would watch over them both for the next season.

Rumina’s Cup

These cups are made of silver with a bowl of delicately carved ivory.  The silver base is usually in the form of two maidens back to back holding up the bowl which is decorated with floral and fruit designs.

To activate the power of the cup requires a libation of milk, as opposed to the usual wine, and it gives a nursing mother and child (or children) +3 sacred bonus to saves against diseases, poisons and starvation for the next season.  Once a day, it can cure moderate wounds (2d8+7) on a nursing mother or child.

Aura strong  abjuration; CL 7th
Slot none; Price 2,500; Weight 1 lb
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, bless, cure moderate wounds, neutralize poison, remove disease, creator must have had a child; Cost 1,250 (+100 xp for D&D)

Notes: Rumina is the goddess and protector of nursing mothers and their children.  Again, a small item that would see a lot of use in a society with gods and magic.

  1. A magic item with a lot of versimilitude, in the sense that it’s surely something magic-using cultures would develop in real life, even though its the sort of thing not as useful to the adventuring sector.
