New Magic Item – Shielding Stylus
March 15, 2011The first attempt on the Dictator of Varanda’s life failed when his stylus left to his defense buying him enough time to draw his dagger and call for help. Two more time, his animated stylus would save him from attempts on his life but it would prove no protection against poison administered by his latest mistress.
Shielding Stylus
These come in many forms from simple reed stylus to dyed quill to decorated fountain pen. But they are something a bureaucrat or a politician can keep close to hand without attracting attention.
When the owner of the shielding stylus is attacked, the stylus (if within 30′) flies to protect him, providing a +4 shield bonus for ten rounds. The stylus only functions once per day. However, if the owner is truly desperate, he can speak a command word and it will burn itself out protecting the owner until the end of the combat providing the effect of a blur spell as well as the shield bonus.
A person can only be attuned to one shielding stylus at a time.
