New Magic Item – Odalam’s Ward
January 8, 2011Odalam gave his word to the High King that the Castle at Silver would not fall as long as Odalam drew breath. Odalam had made for him a simple headband, set with four stones taken from Castle Silver, and wore it as the seal of his intentions. When the army of the Usurper came down out of the high hills and laid siege to Castle Silver, Odalam commitment was made manifest. Each time the Usuper’s men battered down the main gate, anew one appeared seemingly made of shining silver. When the walls were breached, a silver wall replaced them. But with each silver seal of the defense, Odalam grew wearer. Only the arrival of Prince Niles and a relief force saved the Caster and Odalam.
Odalam’s Ward
This silver headband is set with four equally-spaced plain hexagonal stones. Engraved inside is the motto, “As long as my heart beats, the walls will hold.” The headband seems much heavier than it should.
To be used it must be keyed to a building, fort or castle by marking the stone of the headband with the future wearer’s blood and then touching it to the structure to be warded, this must be done knowingly and willingly by the future wearer. Once that is done and the headband donned, it cannot be removed except by the death of the wearer.
The magic of Odalam’s Ward lets the wearer look in on any part of the structure he is keyed to and to look out from that point as they he was standing there. He senses any damage to the warded structure and can choose to immediately perceive from the point under assault. However, the greatest power of the ward is that the wearer’s life force will seal any breach in the keyed structure. This is not without cost and is extremely draining, this is represented by the wearer taking a negative level. From the point of view of those trying to create the breach -and the defenders-, a silver wall will appear, sealing the breach and ‘healing’ the defenses. The ‘spirit wall’ thus will be as strong as the defense that had just been breached when it was newly built and will last until the structure is fully repaired or the wearer of the ward dies. Equally, the negative level persists until complete physical repairs are made of the breach.
Additionally, once a day, the wear can instantly move from one part of the keyed building to another as a swift action.

Notes: This is a difficult item to price as it is totally outside the norm for a magic item. It strikes me as a little low, but equally, it is very limited for all its power and costly to use.
